I’m taking part in the HostelBookers 7 Super Shots which started this past January 2012 and has finally made its way around the blogosphere to Sardinia. I secretly watched and hoped that one day I too would be tagged for this travel inspiration series. Last week I was ‘tagged’ by Casey in Colorado who writes a great blog titled: words of a wanderer. One hundred and thirteen years have passed since the first Cavalcata Sarda took place to honor King Umberto 1 and Queen Margherita, who made a visit to Sardegna in 1899. This colourful folk festival is held on the second-last Sunday of May, every year.
For close to an hour traditional costumes from various towns all over Sardinia paraded their wares for the world to see. It was a beautiful display of colour and music. It was also the first year in over ten years that the procession part of the Cavalcata Sarda was cancelled due to weather.
La Accabadora is a middle-aged woman dressed in black with a long shawl covering her head. Her job, as appointed by the community, was to apply euthanasia to the old and infirm using a cudgel (a short thick stick used as a weapon).
This past weekend I was invited to an ancient Sardinian wedding tradition held high up in the hills of Fiminaltu. Actors recreate one of the oldest wedding traditions to date with ox-drawn carts and a 90-minute procession down the windy mountainous roads to St. Antonio di Li Colti.

Yesterday was the first time we hit the beach this year. It was a perfect hot day for the beach but the water is still cold and only the brave dare enter. Where do you get your beach on?
Landing a decent job in Sardinia is no easy task. Finding a job that I feel comfortable and happy with is proving to be difficult. Last week I wrote a post called My Expat Lives | Celebrating 4 Years in Sardinia, Italy. In that post, I highlight some of the struggles I’ve faced and overcome in the last four years. I’ve decided to write this post in hopes to inform people who Google: expat Sardinia, expat work in Sardinia, expat life in Sardinia and so on.
I’ve received several emails from people all over the world asking me questions about life on this beautiful Mediterranean island. Questions about daily life, working life and language.
There is a lot of competition for jobs on the island at the moment, the unemployment rate is through the roof and the employers are using that to their advantage, by paying the employees a lower wage. It’s a sad state of affairs for the unemployed in Sardinia, now imagine being an expat.

On May 6th 2008, I left my home and native land for Sardinia, Italy.
How is it possible that four years have passed? I can’t believe it! I made the long trip back to Canada several times in the last few years. The time never enough, and some of my family have come to visit us in Sardinia and again, the time was never enough, but the memories will stay forever.
This will be one of my longer posts, so grab a glass of wine, some popcorn or a jar of Nutella. Just get comfortable.
