Weekly Photo Challenge: Foreshadow

A Caribbean storm over Seven Mile Beach, Grand Cayman. This is one of my favourite photos I took while living in Grand Cayman this past winter. I had a fabulous time watching this storm move in and even got a little wet.

Where the Mediterranean meets the Caribbean

Ten of us gathered for a late afternoon brunch at a friend’s house in West Bay, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands. Brunch is a BIG thing on the island and it’s the day most people look forward to. Some head out to expensive and posh hotels to drink expensive champagne which has been spoiled with orange juice. And others … like the Italians, meet with friends, inside their homes.

We sip beautiful earthy reds from the Mediterranean mountains of Sardinia and dine on locally, fresh caught Cayman lobster. This is where the Mediterranean meets the Caribbean.

ImageLife is pretty exceptional when you mix two worlds.

What are your Sunday traditions?

Weekly Photo Challenge: Home

I’ve spent the last five days pondering where exactly is home for me? Is it Canada, where I was born and raised? Or, is it the stunning mountainous ranges of Sardinia, Italy that I married into? Or, is it the seven mile long stretches of sand in Grand Cayman that I call home?

This is what home represents to me:

Canada

I was raised on this plot of land, I ran circles around my grandfather as he mowed the lawn on the driving lawn mower. I found kittens in the kids mini-house and watched them grow into mewing adults and there once stood a 5 bedroom house and a mountain of memories.

Sardinia, Italy

For the past five years I have called this amazing island my home. I have hiked from one mountain to the next, stopped at farms to watch running horses or to see the birth of a new baby lamb. I have witnessed the worlds best beaches and swam in the warm waters of the Mediterranean. Sardinia has stolen my heart, she is my home.

Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands

Thirteen years ago this tiny island in the Caribbean was my home; a few months ago she became my home once more. With her inviting waters and seven miles of beach, it is here where I relax, it is only here, at this time in my life that I will call her home.

How many homes do you have?

My best kept secret at My Sardinian Life

Besides my immediate family; only two of you, in the internet world know about my best kept secret. It’s been a secret for so long that I’m bursting at the seams with excitement, anticipation and nervousness. I mean – this is something I’ve done before, I’m no rookie. I know the ins and the outs of this game; I’ve played it many times in my career.

But now, it’s just a bit different – because my heart and soul are here, in Sardinia.

In the last several years I have struggled with finding decent employment to the point of frustration, tears and hopelessness. I have written about it several times in the past and you can read about it here and here.

This post is not about what happened in the past –  it’s about what’s going to happen in the very near future.

My Sardinian Life’s best kept secret is …

We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop.” – Mother Teresa

Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands. The beautiful palm is near while the ocean beckons me; far in the distance.

Travel Theme: Sunset by Jennifer Avventura

Another fantastic travel theme this week: Sunset.

Follow me on a voyage of some of the best island sunsets our world has to offer. And be sure to check out Ailsa’s blog Where’s my backpack for more great submissions.

Sardinia, Italy

This photo was snapped looking out a window, that is why it’s a little blurry. There was definitely fire in the sky that evening and such a beautiful sunset.

Sardinia, Italy

Sunsets and storms make for awesome photography.

Boracay Island, Philippines

This photo was shot in 1998. I love the fishing boats and the calm waters, and the stunning sunset brings back beautiful memories.

Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands 2001

I was living and working in Grand Cayman for two years and saw the most spectacular sunsets I have ever seen. Unfortunately, at the time, I didn’t have the best camera for stunning sunset photos.

Where is your favourite place to catch a sunset?

Chase The Dart | Believe in Dreams

Sometimes in life, you need a dart, a dart board and some courage. The board is there to make the final decision. Your only requirement is to throw the dart.

There are a myriad of options why one never throws the dart. There are limits to our logic. Most of the time we spend holding the dart, afraid to throw it, afraid of what the board will tell us.

I’ve held my dart for far too long. It’s time to let go, time to focus on the dream. Time to travel. The time is now. One way or another a life changing event will unfold. Again.

Throw the dart.

I can’t.

Just do it. It’s not the first time nor will it be the last.

But … but … packing up and moving again. Do I have it in me to culturally, emotionally and spiritually open myself up to a new country … again?

Yes, you can.

The dart flies out of my hand, through the air, swoosh. Eyes closed and heart pounding.

I … can’t … believe … I’m … doing … this … again! I’m nuts! Totally nuts!

The dart lands with a thud, stuck to the plastic map and wall. I can’t move, I won’t move. My new reality is about to unfold, another new beginning is about to start. Oh dear, I’m moving where … ? Continue reading
