Looking at the little things in life

Sometimes in life the big things take over, they are uncontrollable and we lose focus. I prefer to look at the little things that make this world spin, that make me spin. The little things that get inside my head and complete me. Jennifer Avventura My Sardinian Life (31)The little things that seem so insignificant to the bigger picture that I’ve forgotten how I got here. It was the little things that built my grand picture, the little things that held me up, the little things that make me believe, make me hold on to the dream that I will see you again.

Have you looked at the little things in your life lately?

An ode to the island of Sardinia

Jennifer Avventura Sardinia 2012

Gosh, it’s been a long time since I’ve seen your face, twenty-one months precisely. I can only imagine your sun-kissed shadows, the way the wind whips in the cold winter months, the sound of your animals going out to pasture and the lingering sensation of a well aged mirto sipped between my lips. For one day soon, I shall return to your green pastures, and help seed our own garden, made from love.

A poem for Sardinia

This little poem is dedicated to the volunteers who have worked tirelessly to rebuild Sardinia after Cyclone Cleopatra.

Forza Sardinia.

Her Beautiful Green Thumb

Her flowers always bloom with colour where mine wilt-brown and fade. Her thumb is green, alright. She knows just the right light, angled perfectly by the compass, to allow the buds to bloom beautiful shades of vibrant colours.

I can grow herbs, and sunflowers. Abundance of colours are not my thing, sadly.

Parsley, basil, thyme, cilantro and budding yellow sunflowers give me half a green thumb. To her full green thumb. She’s a wise young Sardinian friend, always willing to help and educate.

I’ve tried and tried again to grow colour, but she isn’t accepting of me. Instead I photograph her beauty in the wild and potted in friends gardens.

Do you have a green thumb?

The other day, a little

came out to play
she stuck around
not touching ground
till she found

Three Little Angels | A Letter

“I never knew love so strong until I met you.” A.J 2012

It was two years before I could make it back to my home country. Two years of wishing, and needing your little hearts and hands around my body.

Surprises are meant to surprise. And I sure showed you. Continue reading

My Love Affair

The new cd arrived.  Finally.  I ordered it on Januray 20th, 2011 and it arrived last monday.  That’s three months land travel for her to finally come knocking on my door.  Florence + the Machine. LUNGS is blowing my effin mind.  Her lyrics are powerfully brilliant and completely whacked out.  Song number seven on the disk Drumming Song is strong with beats and just blows me bloody socks off.  It’s a perfectly orchestrated song with ups and downs, highs and lows.  I feel like I’m on a rollercoaster listening to that song. I’m so in lurve with her strong voice and angst ridden lyrics. There’s nothing like a powerful songstress to bring out emotion and melt ice.  I’ve played my new cd over and over and over, and each time I’m again moved.  It’s quite the orgasmic compilation of songs.

Dog Hounding

Morals and values
stripped aside,
in your corner trying to hide.
Through that gape in your heart
that you left for me.
You are higher than a kite,
and sick of the fight.
Words go round and round.
There is no conclusion,
nothing found.
In dire straights;
love like chocolate
I never looked back.
You’re thick like honey,
it ain’t about the money.
Cage an animal and wait.
Soon you will see the anger, the pace;
and that long look on my face.
Ask me why? And I tell no lies.
Truth you don’t like,
you don’t believe.
Anything said.
Stuck in your head,
you not are right.
Come on; put up your fists
Let’s fight.
Ready for a good pounding,
You dog hounding.
