Travel Theme: A Bright Sardinian Pomegranate
Sardinian pomegranates are ripe for picking. They are bright, delicious and have been a symbol of prosperity and hope, all over the world for centuries.
Did you know?
During the Persian wedding ceremony, a basket of pomegranates is placed on the ceremonial cloth to symbolize a joyous future. In Turkey, after the marriage ceremony, the bride throws a pomegranate on the ground. The number of arils that fall out are believed to indicate how many children she will have. In Crete, when a bride enters her new home, the groom hands her a pomegranate. In China, a picture of a ripe, open pomegranate is a popular wedding present, expressing the wish, “May you have as many children as there are seeds!”¹
I love pomegranates; when I was a child I remember my mother bringing this brightly coloured fruit home; always an Autumn fruit and always perfect. I devoured every last aril, often staining my fingers, table-cloth, face and fingers in the process. It was a delicious childhood.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Silhouette
A silhouette is the image of a person, an object or scene represented as a solid shape of a single color, usually black, its edges matching the outline of the subject. The interior of a silhouette is basically featureless, and the whole is typically presented on a light background, usually white, or none at all. The silhouette differs from an outline which depicts the edge of an object in a linear form, while a silhouette appears as a solid shape. Silhouette images may be created in any visual artistic media.¹
Silhouette photos haunt me; this week’s photo challenge haunts me. I’m not super artistic when it comes to these types of shots and actually prefer to never take them. It wouldn’t be called a challenge if it weren’t, well, challenging.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Happy
What makes me the happiest girl in the world? Speaking to my three nieces via Skype. I love seeing their smiling happy faces when the connection clicks on through. They show me their new school outfits; sing me new pop songs and even play the saxophone.
It’s truly a beautiful happy moment. One I take with me when I head to the beach for some Autummer sun.
Pizza also makes me super-duper happy. So happy that I do the happy-happy pizza dance. Since moving to Sardinia I’ve had a long running phrase when signing letters or emails to my three little nieces and they get a good kick out of it, which makes Aunt Jenny beyond happy.
The phrase?
I love you more than Italian pizza!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Everyday Life
This weeks challenge is all about people and the things they do. I’ve never been one to photograph people as I prefer rolling landscapes and blue waters, so I’ve dug a little deep to find some people pics. I hope you enjoy.
Two days ago a mistral blew through northern Sardinia and we headed to the beach to roll in the waves. Elated to see about eight surfers in the water, I knew what I had to do next; out came the camera and I snapped away. Surfing is an everyday occurence (when the weather permits) for many surfers in this neck of the woods.
A few years ago I made my way back to Canada for a visit. Along with my sister and her beautiful family we drove to Gatineau, Quebec to visit my sister’s in-laws. We had many beautiful adventures: walking among the freshly fallen rustic leaves and watching the ripples fade in a mirror-like pond.
We also went tobogganing!
Prague is one of my all time favourite cities, and I don’t like large cities. I climbed the bell tower and snapped this photo of everyday life in Prague.
My girlfriends and I packed up the car and drove to New Hampshire for a four-day long weekend. Surprised to see the New Hampshire Police force using this mode of transportation; I guess it’s part of their everyday life, I sure had a giggle.
In 2007 I had the pleasure of traveling to Santorini, Greece with this group of fabulous travelers. I have been a member on Virtual Tourist since 2005 when I was searching for information on Brazil. These people are a wealth of information and are a great group to ride a donkey up a steep mountain with. I would do it again, yes I would!
Now the following photo shows my everyday life, albeit six years ago when I was running around as a waitress in a busy restaurant overlooking Niagara Falls, Canada. I loved my job, really I did. This photo is dedicated to one special person, and all the douchebags that don’t tip!
