Snapshots: Remembering Sardinia’s Panorama

It’s been nine months since I left my soul in Sardinia, and there’s not a day that passes in which I don’t think of her majestic nature.

It’s always a blessing to look back on these photos, fond memories, fond times and a place where my soul rests, peacefully.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Abandoned in Sardinia

“Art is never finished, only abandoned.” Leonardo da Vinci

“Basic human contact – the meeting of eyes, the exchanging of words – is to the psyche what oxygen is to the brain. If you’re feeling abandoned by the world, interact with anyone you can.” Martha Beck

Weekly Photo Challenge: Threes never a crowd in Sardinia

It was an overcast and cold February afternoon when I looked out my living-room window.

The panorama leaves me breathless, always wanting more. The sheep gracefully grazed their afternoon snack while wild boars were secretly and quietly coming out of hiding. It’s not often we get to see a wild boar roaming free in these hilly lands but this day was a Sunday and more often than not they come out on this day just to torture the hunter who tries so skillfully to kill them.

Mom and Pop hung their heads low not sure in which direction the next shot will blow. When the coast was all clear, they gathered their young not knowing were the next hunter might appear.

Delightfully in tow, not one, nor two, not three nor four, not even five could keep this tribe happily revived. There were six in all, following along the safety of mother’s hooves step. They were gone in a flash, deep in the bush leaving but a line of silhouettes.

“In a nutshell, a three-picture story is a way to help you think about storytelling with images. To create a three-picture story, gather:

  1. An establishing shot: a broad photo of your subject.
  2. A relationship: two elements interacting with one another.
  3. A detail: a close-up of one part of your subject.”

How often do wild boars gaze in your front yard?

Good morning moon over the Bay of Asinara

This morning was the first time I watched the full moon set and the sunrise, it was a spectacular, romantic treasure.

Polar Vortex hits Northern Sardinia

Winter in Sardinia is the polar opposite of its summertime climate. Thick fog, whipping winds and relentless rain make it impossible to see the light of day, for days and days.

This is winter in Sardinia my friends.

Who’s dreaming of a bright, blue summer?

Weekly Photo Challenge: Juxtaposition

“There is something perfect to be found in the imperfect: the law keeps balance through the juxtaposition of beauty, which gains perfection through nurtured imperfection.”

Hand-crafted silver bladed knives, in every size from the heart of SardiniaMamoiada.

Jennifer Avventura My Sardinian Life 2014 Mamoiada

Upon further investigation I have found that Opinel knives originate from France. Can anyone of my followers confirm this? A few months ago I made the voyage to Mamoiada and noticed this display outside a shop window. The three knives under the Opinels look like they were made in Sardinia. My husband has a small collection and they resemble these.

The setting sun on winter solstice 2013 – Sardinia, Italy

The winter solstice setting sun 21/12/2013. It’s official winter has arrived and depending on where you live the weather will be dramatically different from heavy snow falls to a beautiful bright sun.

Winter by Jennifer Avventura My Sardinian Life

The first day of winter in Sardinia felt like a beautiful summer day in July, with temperatures reaching 25 degrees in some parts of the island. I spent the day in shorts and a t-shirt, yes you read that right! On the first day of winter Santa gave to me … a wonderful, colourful winter’s setting sun.

Happy Winter Solstice!

Brilliant Light Goodnight Sardinia

The first sunset of December 2013 was a blazing bright pinkish/orange. It lit up our living room like a bright disco light.

Snapshots: Layers of a Sardinian Sunrise

They say that the early bird catches the worm, and in this case I caught a beautiful Sardinian sunrise, layered with soft fluffy clouds.
