The winter solstice setting sun 21/12/2013. It’s official winter has arrived and depending on where you live the weather will be dramatically different from heavy snow falls to a beautiful bright sun.
The first day of winter in Sardinia felt like a beautiful summer day in July, with temperatures reaching 25 degrees in some parts of the island. I spent the day in shorts and a t-shirt, yes you read that right! On the first day of winter Santa gave to me … a wonderful, colourful winter’s setting sun.
This is my response to the Weekly Travel Theme: Winter.
Happy Winter Solstice!

Hi, Jennifer! We spent the day in shorts and t-shirts too… in New York! Weird.
Super thrilled to find your blog!! Jean is a great fan of Sicily, ever since she visited some years ago; would absolutely LOVE to experience Sardinia… and paddle both. Any kayak outfitters there (not the tandems-for-beginners thing, thx)? For example, a dream of ours is to paddle/camp/circumnav the Aeolian Islands with a group of hearty, experienced sea kayakers. BTW, for your freelance travel writing pursuits, you might do a piece that focuses on such an escapade…? With a slant toward us skilled, strong, middle-aged folks (seems the millennials have all taken up SUP… go figure). Happy 2014!
Lovely sunset, Jennifer.
I still can’t believe the weather there…although it’s not necessarily a good thing! A cyclone a month or so ago and now summer?? The weather is definitely messed up, don’t you think?? Enjoy it while it lasts, lol!
There’s something strange going on with the weather system, that’s for sure!
You have just confirmed why we are moving out there, shivering here in chilly rainy england. Xxx
Oh, it gets chilly here too, seems we are just lucky this winter. I can’t complain with the windows wide open today, and the sun shining right on in! 🙂
Beauuuuuutiful! It’s snow-raining in Moscow
Ewww…snow-rain, I don’t like that. I spoke with my family yesterday in Canada and they have plenty of fluffy snow – feeling nostalgic! 🙂
Even though I like you, I hate you a little right now 😉 SO jealous of you walking around in a t-shirt and shorts! Happy Christmas!
Jealousy will get you no where and if it’s any consolation I do have a scarf on. 😉 Happy Holidays!
I’m going ice-skating… 😉
Have a great Sardinian Christmas.
Thank you! And Merry Christmas to you and yours. Will you be in Australia or Italy this holiday season?
Merry Christmas to you, Jen 🙂 I read your trials and tribulations of the postal system, but, as ever, there’s a bright side. All the best for 2014.
Thank you, and Merry Christmas to you and yours. 🙂 There is always a bright side, sometimes it just takes a little extra polish to see it. 🙂
