Chase The Dart | Believe in Dreams

Sometimes in life, you need a dart, a dart board and some courage. The board is there to make the final decision. Your only requirement is to throw the dart.

There are a myriad of options why one never throws the dart. There are limits to our logic. Most of the time we spend holding the dart, afraid to throw it, afraid of what the board will tell us.

I’ve held my dart for far too long. It’s time to let go, time to focus on the dream. Time to travel. The time is now. One way or another a life changing event will unfold. Again.

Throw the dart.

I can’t.

Just do it. It’s not the first time nor will it be the last.

But … but … packing up and moving again. Do I have it in me to culturally, emotionally and spiritually open myself up to a new country … again?

Yes, you can.

The dart flies out of my hand, through the air, swoosh. Eyes closed and heart pounding.

I … can’t … believe … I’m … doing … this … again! I’m nuts! Totally nuts!

The dart lands with a thud, stuck to the plastic map and wall. I can’t move, I won’t move. My new reality is about to unfold, another new beginning is about to start. Oh dear, I’m moving where … ? Continue reading

The Singing Brazilian | Mr. Satisfaction

It’s Monday. Period. And I can’t get no satisfaction. I’ve attempted to write a top something list (it will be published, at some point in the near-ish future) but my mind is distracted by other things. There is a cool salt breeze coming through the open bay windows. The ocean from here, is but a calm motionless entity. The hazy blue sky reflects my lazy mood. It’s times like these when one should tie on their sneakers and hit the streets for a run. But I’m addicted. I’ll run tomorrow and blog today. Continue reading

Lillie’s Bordello | Dublin, Ireland

I had an Irish-born boyfriend once, who came to Canada to open an Irish pub. I was the bartender and, he was the general manager, we fell in love. He had a friend in Dublin and I loved to travel, so I packed my bags and headed for the little green island. He stayed back in Canada slinging Guinness. I stayed with his friend Vanessa and she lived two blocks from the city centre of Dublin. She liked to party, it was nineteen ninety-nine after all, and so did I. She had friends in every bar, nook and cranny along the cobblestoned streets of Dublin. She had a friend who was a bouncer at Dublin’s most prestigious nightclub Lillie’s Bordello. And that my readers, is how I got my foot in the door at one of the worlds most exclusive nightclubs. Continue reading

A beach birthday in Brazil

Cabo Frio, Rio Di Janeiro, Brazil

Life seems to take on a new meaning for me yearly, around my birthday. And in 2005, for my 30th birthday my good friend and I set out for Brazil. We flew into Sao Paolo direct from Toronto. It was a long 13-hour flight; hot and boring. But being with a good friend made the journey much more pleasant. Her birthday is nine days before mine, this was her first excursion outside of Canada, and she was coming with me; the veteran traveler. Continue reading

A bus trip down the Oodnadatta track – Australia

NORTHERN TERRITORY, AUSTRALIA

Luck was on my side in 1997 when I checked-in for a domestic flight, Cairns to Darwin. One-way.

Passport, please.” Said the pretty little lady dressed in blue polyester.

Hands over the passport. “So, you’re Canadian, eh?”

Um, yeah.” Not giving in, she wanted me to say it. To say, eh. Well, I didn’t.

Would you like to sit in the cockpit for take-off and landing today?”

What the what? What she just say? My body still intoxicated, filled with VB vapours from the beach party the night before.

Yeah, yes. Ok. Wow. Thank you.” Effin almighty, eh!
