Complete Event Guide to Summer in Sardinia 2013

Here it is folks – the who, what, where and when of summer 2013 in Sardinia, Italy. Concerts, culture, food festivals, jazz festivals, cinema and much, much more! For the first time in five and a half years, I have seen something that gets me so excited that I want to do cartwheels, back-flips and scream from the top of Gennargentu. Never in the almost 6 years that I have lived in Sardinia have I seen something so organized, articulate and thorough! I would like to personally thank the ingenious people at SardegnaEventi24.it for putting together such an elaborate and informative map listing all events in Sardinia for summer 2013.

So many wonderful events and so little time. Which event(s) will you be going to?

The local side of it – Li Feruli, Sardinia, Italy

I’ve written about this stunning stretch of beach many, many times before and yesterday, for the first time in 6 months, I finally got to relive its natural beauty. Li Feruli was left off the list of top beaches in Sardinia that was circulating the social media scene and I’m grateful as I want to keep this gem all to myself.

There was hardly a soul around (with the exception of a pair of nudist) as we made our way to ‘our‘ spot. The cool breeze mixed with the salt air and I reminded myself that I have returned to heaven.

And now, I’d like to remind you, the naked tourist. This stretch of sand is not a designated nudist beach. Personally, I have zero problem if you decide to strip down to your birthday suit but the local authorities may see differently.

If you’d like to get naked in Italy here is a wonderful link with designated nude beaches.

It’s good to be home! It’s good to set foot on Li Feruli, again and again!

What’s the first thing you do after returning from abroad?

Travel theme: Beaches of North West Sardinia

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted something on My Sardinian Life and when I saw Ailsa’s theme this week I knew I just had to post some of my favourite beaches in North Sardinia.

(Click on any header name to read a more complete profile of these beaches, plus more photos!)

I hope you’ve enjoyed the photo montage of my favourite beaches in The Gallura. If you want to see more fabulous beaches from around the world, or even sign up and add your own then check out Ailsa’s Travel Theme at Where’s My Backpack.

Have you been anyone of these stunning beaches in Sardinia?

Travel Theme: Hot

Another great theme from Ailsa from Where’s my backpack? The theme this week is hot and I wish it were hot in Sardinia now. Instead of warm summer temperatures we’ve dipped below 10c! That’s shivering cold for us. I’m bundled up tight in my Canadian sweatshirt and wooly socks and dreaming of higher temps.

September Summer Daze

I’m busy playing tour guide with visiting friends from the mainland. This afternoon we hit the beach, and what a wonderful beach it is. We hiked 250 meters down a mountain to reach this stunning stretch of coast. This secret beach is accessible by foot or boat; I like to call it Bedrock Beach.

What did you do this fabulous Monday?

Le Grand Bleu | The Super Mega Yacht

One of the world’s largest, super-mega yachts, Le Grand Bleu was seen floating off the north-west coast of Sardinia, Italy on August 12, 2012.

She’s big, she’s beautiful and she is estimated to be worth $85-$90 million! I was there to capture her in all her splendid, expensive glory. I couldn’t help but stare at this beautiful beast silently floating in the Bay of Asinara (Donkey Bay) for the entire three hours we were at the beach.

Le Grand Bleu is a 370-foot mega yacht, launched in 2000 and originally owned by American business person John McCaw Jr.

In 2002 the McCaw family sold Le Grand Bleu to Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich. Roman had le grand bleu lengthened (yes lengthened! cause you know 370-feet is just too small) and refitted with a 16-foot swim platform! Snap!

There is very little known on the interior of the yacht for privacy reasons. However, what we do know is this: a 74-foot sailboat AND a 67-foot speed boat are stored on deck, for emergencies, of course. As well as a personal helicopter, for those shopping trips to Costa Smeralda. Le Grand Bleu has a crew of 50.

Just Me, My Yacht & Helicopter | Le Grand Bleu

It was a wonderful hazy day in Isola Rossa yesterday and I decided to take my yacht to the beach, along with my helicopter because you just never know.

It was a hazy, lazy day on the beach and this was the best photo I could snap of this super yacht.

A Morning with Marinedda

It’s 7:00AM, I’m out of bed and at the beach just as the sun is climbing its way above the mountain tops. The water is calm, too calm, like before a storm. There are hardly any beachgoers at this time of morning, it’s perfect and Marinedda is mine, if only for a moment.

The ocean flirts her salt water wind in my direction. Continue reading
