My best kept secret at My Sardinian Life

Besides my immediate family; only two of you, in the internet world know about my best kept secret. It’s been a secret for so long that I’m bursting at the seams with excitement, anticipation and nervousness. I mean – this is something I’ve done before, I’m no rookie. I know the ins and the outs of this game; I’ve played it many times in my career.

But now, it’s just a bit different – because my heart and soul are here, in Sardinia.

In the last several years I have struggled with finding decent employment to the point of frustration, tears and hopelessness. I have written about it several times in the past and you can read about it here and here.

This post is not about what happened in the past –  it’s about what’s going to happen in the very near future.

My Sardinian Life’s best kept secret is …

I found a job!

It’s not in Sardinia, nor in Italy and not even in Europe.

I am moving to … drum roll please. Ta-da!

7 Mile Beach Grand Cayman

I know this beautiful little island in the Caribbean well. I spent two years working on the famous 7 Mile Beach, twelve years ago as a waitress. I found a nice little restaurant which wants to employ me (I am grateful). It’s a full-time job, 6 days a week and a steady paycheck!

I will still post articles about Sardinia – albeit infrequently. My plan is to write more in-depth articles about the traditions, cultures and people of Sardinia and write more personal accounts about the place I treasure with my heart and soul.

I am excited about this new adventure in Cayman Islands and I hope you will take the time to come along with me.

For those itching to get a fixin’ of Jennifer Avventura – don’t despair. There is a blog in the works for Cayman Islands.

I would like you to help me name it. Here are my four top choices:

  • The Cayman Islands Expat
  • The Island Expat
  • My Life in Cayman
  • My Caymanian Life

Tell me your favourite blog name in the comment section below. Thank you. Also – please feel free to add your own! 🙂

I would like to thank each and every one of you who have supported My Sardinian Life from the start. Without your words of encouragement My Sardinian Life would not have flourished into the bright little blog it has become. It’s because of you – my followers and Sardinian supporters that I continued on; to write about one of the most magical places on the planet – Sardinia. She’s yours to discover.

Good-bye, Sardinia. I will miss you terribly – but it’s not forever.

Ajo! Andemmu a Cayman! Andiamo a Cayman! Let’s go to Cayman!

Wish me luck!

  1. Wow when you said I start my new job never in a million years did I think Cayman Islands!!! Very lucky place to be and to have you 🙂 I have never been, but John’s aunt married a fellow from Cayman and he raves about it.
I will be making a big decision this Christmas and deciding if June I will come home… we had planned to go to another teaching post overseas, but things have changed, priorites adjusted and it looks like home this June or next. If it is next I will be solo and hubby at home working. He has been in Canada 6 weeks already… glad I have kitty to keep me company.
Good for you to take the chance and plung. Best of luck.

  3. From “My Sardinian Life” to “My Cymanian Life” it just make a lot of sense. 7 mile beach what a beautiful place, I’ve been there scuba diving…try it you’ll love it.

  4. Congratulations!! Great post, I had no choice but to click ‘continue reading’

    How about I Camy-an I Saw-an……

    Sorry, I’m a dreadful punner!!

    Cayman get me!

    I’ll stop now

      • I have a feeling you can change the title at a later date, but please check this out! I can’t at the moment as have a throbbing sinus headache so small print is out of the question!!

Found you via Jo Bryant 🙂

  5. Wow- congratulations!!! This was a huge shock, it sounds like you’re happy – so I’m very happy for you!

I agree – I dislike the word expat for a title; any of the Cayman options sound good – I like the play on words… “Cayman and Stayed” or “Cayman as a Writer” or “Cayman. Now what?” or “I Cayman I wrote” or “Cayman like a Dream” … “Cayman by water” or something related to the hospitality industry “Cayman to Serve” –

I also like My Caymanian Life – strong second choice for my vote!

  6. A new adventure! Looking forward to following you there vicariously. “The Island Expat” has my vote — no need to restart the blog as you move from island to island 🙂 ! ~ Kat

  7. Fantastic news, Jennifer. I wish you every success and hope the move goes smoothly! I vote for My Camanian Life, for it’s connection to this blog if that’s any help 🙂

  8. I like My Cayman Life. Anyway, congratulations -cant say i am surprised-Sardinia is not a place to want to work. Ah, and the climate there, should be a lovely change, and whatever job it is, it will be a welcome change for you. Best wishes!

  9. I love the Cayman Islands and you are well blessed to be making it your new home for however long it shall be… I look forward to reading your adventures… as for the name for a blog how about the Coconut Telegraph? It may be fitting!

      • Of course, as a big Jimmy Buffett fan and true Parrot Head, I just figured one of his song titles for a blog about adbentures on a beautiful Island in the Caribbean would be fitting! After all his songs are about the adventure!

  10. I vote for My life in Cayman.
Good luck in your new adventures and whatever it brings you 🙂

  11. Now that’s what I call an adventure, Jen! Looking forward to reading all about the Caymans.
Nothing with expat in the title for me please- I really dislike the word.

  12. Wow!!!! You did keep a huge secret! How long are you going for? Is your husband moving too? When are you moving?!!!! It sounds very exciting!!!! As for blog names… I like My life in Cayman or what about Caribbean life? How cool!

  13. I vote for The Cayman Islands Expat, it says what your blogs about and also that your an expat, and good luck with your new life and blog.

  14. Congratulations on your new adventure and what ever blog name you decide on I will follow along with interest. 🙂

  15. Yaiiiiiiiiiii congratulation Jennifer! There you go for another adventure!!! Judging from the picture you are going to paradise….. so lucky!!!!!!!!!! Good luck girl, i am sure you are going to love it! 🙂
I think i like the “My Caymanian Life” title! Goes along with your Sardinian Life! 🙂

  16. Wow, exciting! Congrats! I vote for My Caymanian Life. I think you should keep a theme going so the next time you move to a new place, you can do “My Somalian Life” “My Vietnaminan Life”.. 😉

  17. Congratulations! With all your struggles with employment in the past, you deserve this one! I’m sure whatever name you come up with will be great. I do like the idea of keeping it close to “My Sardinian Life” and therefore “My Caymanian Life” sounds like the best option to me.
    Exciting times! 🙂

  18. Wow Jennifer, this is a BIG news! Congratulation on your new job and I’m sure you will make the most of your new adventure! I’m a bit sad to see you leave our little island, especially that we have not met yet in person.. Let me know when the big departure day is and if you have any spear time we can finally arrange some tet-a-tet! PS: I’m voting for My Caymanian Life.

  19. Congratulations on your newest job! Hope it brings you all that you are looking for. My Life in Cayman sounds good to me. Will your husband be going as well, or is this not a permanent move! Having been in Sardegna, I can’t imagine leaving, but one must work and be happy! It will be interesting no mater where you go. Being of Sardinian heritage I will miss that part of it, so I hope you will still write about that at times also! You will do well no matter where you are, you are very gifted at writing. May God Bless! Enjoy it all!

    The Sard/American,
    Rosemarie

  20. Ok! I’ve just picked myself up from the floor. Ouch! That’s fantastic news! I’m so happy for you! I vote for My Caymanian Life. All the best! and THANK YOU! We might catch up in DownUnder… 😉

    • I do like The Island Expat – but I want to gear the blog towards Cayman Islands. I don’t want a cross bred blog with Sardinia interrupting Cayman. Plus – Sardinia is a wonder on to her own and she deserves her own blog! 🙂

  21. Wow Jennifer that’s some news… Is your hub tagging along? That’d be quite a move for a Sard. Well, you are now following on the footsteps of 100s, 1000s of Sards before (and after) you, who had to leave paradise because you just can’t live, prosper or even survive on white beaches and promises.

  22. Congratulations, Jennifer!! What fantastic news! I’ll be following your blog(s) wherever you go. “Aimin’ for Cayman” or “Caymin the back door” — I don’t know, some kind of fun play on words?? Otherwise, My Caymanian Life is in keeping with your Sardinian Life. Tanti tanti auguri!!!

  23. that’s awesome news Jennifer! Are you going to stay in the hospitality sector? I can’t wait to read your new blog, you are such a great writer and always write such interesting posts! my vote is for “My Life in Cayman”.
